Definition - When a student is dismissed for a specified time period - usually one semester - for failing to maintain or achieve the minimum cumulative GPA required.

Academic suspension is the removal of a student from a matriculated status in a program. Refer to Policies and Procedures.

A student may be academically dismissed from Maryville for failure to make “satisfactory academic progress”. Requirements are defined in the Student Handbook on line.

Students who are on probation and have a subsequent term GPA of less that 2.0 will be placed on suspension. Academic Suspension at NAU indicates that your cumulative GPA and a subsequent term GPA have both dropped below the 2.0 requirement, and you are subject to the following three restrictions: Cancellation of enrollment in the next term, Cancellation of university housing in the next term and inability to enroll in any NAU courses.

A student placed on academic suspension is not allowed to take classes at the university until the term of suspension has been served. Academic suspension bars a student from registration.
